This is going to be a long one...

House Rabbit Societies. Yes I'm bringing this topic up, so I warn you these are my opinions, mixed with research I have done using books/vets/the internet.

First of all, rabbits make great house pets, in fact I currently have 5 of my rabbits in the house, 4 of which are in my bedroom. The other is in Tristyn's room. Although unless your house is 100% bunny proof letting them run around free is not a wise decision. The others are in a fully insulated shed. I use natural light, light bulbs which is turned on early in the morning, and turned off late at night. I also am in the shed with them as much as I am in my own bedroom (while not sleeping).

Secondly diet. I believe in feeding a diet of unlimited timothy hay, and a quarter cup of pellets mixed with oats and flax, once a day. Of course unlimited water as well. Now water doesn't need to have vitamins and minerals added to it, these are in the pellets. The diet of a domestic rabbit varies depending on the purpose it is kept for. The most important component of a pet rabbit's diet is hay. Hay is the base of pelleted feeds. In addition to pelleted feeds, Timothy hay, is a necessary and very important part of a rabbit's diet. This kind of hay provides more fiber than other types of hays (Alfalfa is in pellets). Fresh water in clean bowls or water bottles must be available to rabbits at all times. When a rabbit's sensitive digestive system is stable after weaning, vegetables and some fruits may be introduced safely if they are introduced slowly and cautiously. Avoid, nuts and corn. Overfeeding of treats such as apples, bananas, carrots and other sugary foods can lead to obesity or GI stasis, a condition that can be fatal. Feeding greens such as lettuce, fresh grass, and celery, in excess is unhealthy for rabbits and causes diarrhea.

Thirdly Housing. I use wire bottom cages with resting mats, these cages are far more sanitary then shaving cages and much more cost effective and can be made in to what ever size you deem appropriate. With the wire bottom the feces and urine fall through into a drop tray which means the rabbits will not have the chance to sit in their own urine/feces. It is also more sanitary when worming rabbits, in a cage with shavings the rabbit can inhale the worm eggs it just excreted. In the drop pans I use StallDry which neutralizes the ammonia an reduces the chance of ammonia related ilnesses, while also drying any moisture. When cleaning I scrape everything out of the tray, wash with water then spray with a bacteria killing spray before adding a layer of StallDry and returning the tray. Shavings do not due anything to reduce the smell of ammonia and once wet stay wet which in turn leads to urine stains. Also having rabbits with long wool wire cages prevent shavings from getting caught in the wool and causing huge messes like urine/fece stains and matts.

Spaying and Nuetering rabbits. If you feel you should then you should no one is going to stop you, but I suggest finding a reliable rabbit savvy vet. I have found that if your rabbit has already started humping things neutering will not stop this (unless neutering also involves having certain areas of the brain removed). Rabbits do not generally do well under anesthetics especially if they are under 4lbs. 1 in 1000 rabbits will die while being spayed or nuetered which is a very high odd considering the amount of rabbits. I have also read that 80% of rabbits will get cancer in their reproductive organs if not spayed or nuetered by the age of 5. Here I relate this to people, people have huge risks of developing certain cancers as well, what about human over population? Should we spay and nueter ourselves??? I have several rabbits of the age of 5 all are perfectly healthy, and I know many more over the age of five that are perfectly healthy. Again it is up to the owner, and just because someone chooses nature over human interferance they shouldn't be ridiculed for it.

Show rabbits. Show rabbits are supposed to be fit well conditioned animals. Fat rabbits do not win, and skinny rabbits do not win. Therefore they are fed a propper and balanced diet to keep them in shape and healthy. Rabbits with sore hocks are dq'd dirty rabbits will loose a lot of points and no one, especially judges like an agressive rabbit. That is why most breeders who show will not let any openly aggressive rabbits in their breeding programs most things are genetic as much as they are learned behavious. Rabbits who have any abnormal lumps, cuts, mites, are any other sign of illness will be kicked off the table which can be embarrasing, which is why breeders have healthy friendly, clean rabbits.

Rabbit rescues. Sure they're great but one thing has to be made clear here, Breeders don't put their rabbits in shelters, most are fully prepared to look after the ones that aren't up to par with a breeding or showing program. It is bad owners that send their pet rabbits into shelters after they wear out the novelty of being cute. I do not sell to pet stores where people are impulse buyers. I sell to people who have done reasearch about rabbits and are fully prepared to look after them for the 8+ years. Or I sell them to other breeders, which is what most breeders do. In fact I know of several breeders who refuse to sell their rabbits to pet buyers at all. Here is idea for Rescues, take all those unwanted rabbits and turn them into meals for the homeless (I know this sounds wrong but your killing one bird with two stones here). Fixing the over-population of rabbits and feeding the homeless. I for one would not even consider buying from a rescue or even a pet shop, you don't know where that rabbit came from, it could be carrying a whole host of diseases/virus without showing an symptoms I would not risk infecting any of my other rabbits.

I am 100% against house rabbit society crazies. 100% for house rabbits. If you look carefully at messages from house rabbit societies you can see many things where they contradict themselves. Go take a look, and remember domestic rabbits aren't wild rabbits.

a new layout...sorta.

New colours (well a couple), and a new banner in a bright modern-retro style. In case you're wondering what the words on the banner are, they are lyrics to the song Drastic Measures by Sarah Slean, a really nice song that I'm addicted too.

It's confirmed I am going to the Jersey Wooly Nationals, AND the Ohio State RBA Convention Woot. Three shows one weekend 0.o the only downside is my non-rabbit liking sister is coming just 'cause she wants to go to the U.S. Of A. Hmm I predict an eight hour car ride with several, "ahh they're so annoying" and "Ugh I swear I'm allergic to rabbits" and once we get there... "This is sooooo BORING" and "Can't we go somewhere else..perhaps a mall?" Way to ruin my trip Morgan, at least Tristyn only complains about being hungry. I on the other hand, complain about everything else, even when there is nothing to complain about...I will find something bwahahahaha.

Mini Rex anyone?

All Mini Rex are now $25.00 each. They really do need to go (Except Tristyn's)

Starshine hasn't had babies yet *insert stressed out scream here*
Pirelli escaped from his cage last night, and caused me a mild heart attack when he met me at the door of the rabbitry this morning. (Nothing like a 2.5lb ball of white fluff charging at you first thing in the morning) It wasn't in an agressive way, just in an I want you to play with me and no one else way.
Cicada's babies are still freaking adorable.

I am going to be attending the Jersey Wooly Nationals in Ohio in May (Bwahahaha yes Mother, you are too, someone has to drive me.)

...I just realised, I need more nest boxes. Only two out of my 4 are currently useable in winter (One is HUGE, was for English Spots. So I'm wary of babies getting seperated, the other has a half by half wire bottom too drafty for winter and I don't have any wood to use as a bottom... Note to self *You have till January 12th*

Why I raise rabbits.

I get a lot of questions (mainly from school friends) wondering why I breed and show rabbits. So I've decided to answer them here.

#1. It's a hobby something I enjoy immensely. Some people like airplanes, others trains, I like rabbits.

#2. Rabbits are incredibly intelligent, loving, creatures. They keep me out of trouble (not that I'd get in trouble otherwise...) They are very entertaining, and like people they have different tastes in music ( I have some who prefer metal/rock and some that enjoy celtic/folk). In food, and in who they like.

#3. The satisfaction of having babies born in your rabbitry and having them win on the show table (or place really well) is indescribable.

#4. Traveling need I say more? If it weren't for rabbits I'd probably have never been to Kentucky, or even Powassan. I go to a bunch of fairs and gatherings throughout there year.

#5. I am a very competitive person so showing rabbits was the obvious choice for me.

#6. It's fun. It's a big responsibility but I enjoy it.

#8. That's right there is no number 7. I don't mind cleaning cages, it can be made fun. (I'm being 100% serious here)

#9. Other breeders are a bunch of amazing people, super helpful and very friendly, and definitely entertaining.

Food for thoughts

  • If no one were to breed animals, and all existing animals were spayed and neutered in about 20 years no one would have any pets, and everyone would be vegetarians. Scary thought isn't it?
  • There is no such thing as a "Full Miniature Rabbit" or "Mini Dutch" or "Dutch Dwarf" or "Basic Dwarf" if it doesn't have a pedigree it can not be legally called purebred, and if the breed is not recognized by any major Rabbit Breeders Club it cannot be called a pure breed (it's the same with dogs, cats, horses etc.)
  • Pet Stores lie. What does a part time student know anyways?
  • /\ Pet Stores exist to cater to your pet needs (Farmer stores do this to but for cheaper) They want to sell their pets/products no matter what the costs. Breeders exists because they have a personal investment (it's not cheap ya' know) to improve upon their respected breeds, have some healthy competition in shows, and mainly have fun and meet new and interesting people.
  • If you want a mix breed rabbit, please for the love of all things small and furry, don't make your first question "What Breed is it?" it ruins the whole mix breed effect.
  • People asking what breed their rabbit is. Unless it follows a certain breed standard almost to an exact. It's probably a mix of a mix of a mix of a mix, your good ol' Heinz 57. Its probably not a Dwarf Holland cross.
  • If you're trying to sell you rabbit please don't lie. If it's agressive please mention that, or if it needs special attention because it's diabetic it's best to mention that as well.
  • If you buy a rabbit and decide you want it to have babies because babies are cute. PLEASE don't especially if you don't know what you're doing.
  • If you have any questions about the gender of your bunny, or how to cut its nails, grooming, and or cleaning. Contact a breeder they'd be more then happy to help you out.

Looong time no talk...

Okay so here's the dish.

  • I have like a billion does bred all due in January (What an amazing time for first timers!)
  • I'm having an impossible time trying to sell some of my older Jersey's mainly because I'll go pull them out of their cage and decide: "Why would I want to sell this? I mean this is something I would buy."
  • I've decided to donate a couple of my super nice Mini Rex to Tristyn because mainly I'm to attached to them and really don't want to sell them
  • I'm currently looking to by a super nice buck or doe that isn't related heavily to the ones I already have.
  • Having 4 (yes 4!) rabbits in your room is seriously annoying especially when they war with their water bottles at 2am, all 4 or them at the same time.
  • I'm planning on attending the Jersey Wooly nationals in Ohio next year in May is it?
  • Murphy's Law hates me. The super gorgeous black otter doe from Cicada is now only a pet due to a minor disqualification
  • Stall dry is amazing
  • Valhalla is still a very amusing tiny ball of 'tude
  • Bucky Kentucky is a very sweet but vocal little buck, he has an opinion for everything.
  • Ice T is addicted to listening to the Dock (a radio station) and becomes rather glum when I don't have it on.
  • Starshine still believes she is queen of the world.
okay that's all for now (I hope)

Woot New layout

Halloween deserved its own design. So voila a website update and new design.

So anyhow 17 days till convention, which means 16 before we leave. Time sure is flying and so is the fur. My Mini Rex are all finally finished molting, and most of the Jersey Woolies are too, but there still are the odd ones who look funny right now.

So house bunnies live in my room, and I must say Caoilfhinn drives me crazy. I swear she's A.D.H.D rabbit, She is crazy and pregnancy hasn't stopped the madness. Then there's Rebel who must be being driven insane too being so quiet and laid back.

Oh and Saphira lives in Tristyn's room and you would never know she existed unless someone told you.

so yeah checkout the website and ttfn

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Aha Finally an update!

I'm all entered for convention, I've entered nine rabbits all together, four Mini Rex and five Jersey Woolies. Now the real excitement begins...the wait until the convention starts, hoping no one will decide to molt again, pull a toenail, or randomly disappear (It could happen...)

Caoilfhinn (Pronounced Kay-Lin... it's Gaelic) was bred to a gorgeous blue eyed white buck (thank you Melissa for breeding him, and thank you Ingrid for bringing him, which was an awesome surprise) Since Blizzard is out of all Bew, and so is Caoil, the litter is guarenteed to be 100% Bew.

Mercedes is now bred after an excellent show season, I tried breeding her to Rebel, who has no interest in does yet *screams in frustration* he is such an awesome tiny litter bugger. So she was bred purely by chance to the younger, almost three month old Housten, who was more then willing to oblige...Poor buddy, I've created a monster.

Babies for Starshine yet? Nope. Future outlook: Not so good.

Tristyn, has sold all her Netherland Dwarfs except Saphira who is staying as a spoiled pet. Speaking of spoiled pets...Cow Patch, now there is a spoiled house rabbit.

Fly /bug control

Famers farmacy

Okie this is a great website for all your farm needs, but I really really recommend getting the bug wacker spray and dispenser, you'll never see a fly or bug in your rabbitry again! It's a miracle worker seriously its a great investment and is more attractive looking than fly tape. Its mess free and automatic with different time settings.

Okie I also suggest not to leave chocolate inside a tent in the full blazing sun while cleaning cages.
Ahhhh ok I should really be selling some rabbits but lately they've just been to nice to sell, take Noirette's entire litter for instance yes they're all bucks but not just ANY bucks they just happen to be three different colours of broken with astounding fur and bodies on them (Just like their mommy) but to top it off they're just so darn friendly I don't want to sell them.

Then there is Nicole's litter sure they're gangly right now and a little bald where Nicole chewed the fur from their heads (It's coming back!!!!) but before they went ugly they where adorable cute and stunning, and they all have their daddy's personality, and Ice T's friendly docile personality seems to be a very prominent thing in his relatives. I swear these babies will love you to death.

On to Boston's simply adorable babies, again Ice T's presence is there even if he is only the great Grandpa of them. There are 2 solid blues one has a smidgit of a vienna mark on his nose the other one appears to have no vienna markings (yay! he can be shown) on to the brokens one broken blue does reminds me of a koi fish. The other broken blue doe somehow reminds me of Odie even though their only relation again is Ice T waaaaaay back. The last broken is a pretty little broken opal, yes I'm surprised to we somehow got an agouti (They like to pop up everywhere!!)

Bala's two siamese sable does are the cutest balls of fluff ever and are like miniature versions of Bruce the Moose who didn't get as big as I thought he would, his ears are just a tad long and he's lost almost all of his baby coat and is now sort of bald.

Dala's litter is still stunning I just wish the blue point doe wasn't a blue point, she's just so stunning yet I can only show her in the DR&CBA shows.

Okie thats all for now I guess, although I'm going to mention mainly due to excitement, that I got a new tent for my birthday (Finally!)

Babies for B

so the ever so pretty Boston had a litter of not the usually 2 but 5! that's 5 fat wiggly babies and to my surprise 3 of the five are nice brokens. Yes you read correctly brokens, how did that happen you ask? Seeing as Boston has no brokens what so ever in her pedigree. Well the Bew buck (frank sinatra) is hiding broken. You would get booteds then (says someone reading this) I agree totally to but nope they're are far from booted and one only has half a moustache. Sooo my intellectual conclusion is the Vienna gene is very very messed up. The other two are blues and appear to have no mis marks at all. So I have something that will carry the Bew but is still showable at the same time.

Alsooooooooooo anyone who happens to be visiting the Mariposa folk festival in Orillia this weekend Drop by folkplay i'll be volunteering at instruments from 12:30-5:30 Saturday and Sunday.

In other news...We got a new Tree, it's some sort of insanely cool looking willow and its being planted by the badminton net, behind the muskoka chairs and fire pit.
We got egg plants too for the veggie garden which is currently only growing tomatoes. (Radishes and beats soon!)

Okie that seems to be all the news now..

P.S. I'm currently working on a few pages for a graphic designing website.

How small is still to big?

"It's a little big for my likes" is something I would hear from a judge about one of my "over loved" Mini Rex does reaching for the 4 1/2 lb mark, not for a 2lb Jersey Wooly who is under the average weight for the breed. They all look bigger then they actually are. If you're looking for something under 2lbs there are a whole assortment of small rodents avialable at pet shops for far cheaper then a $30.00 rabbit.

At the Vandorf show Starshine earned a Best of Bre
ed leg in the 2nd show. I had only entered three Jersey Woolies and three Mini Rex. There wasn't enough in each class for legs.

As for current litters I'm absolutely in love with Noirette's broken bucks they are all extremely friendly, super cute and very, very showy. Nicole's litter too. Boston is due today and I can't wait she's super fat and these babies will be VM or VC.

I absolutely love Blue Eyed White rabbits. At Vandorf I purchased a beautiful BEW doe from Beth Collins (Family Pride rabbitry) and I absolutely love her. I also have a BEW lionhead buck who is super adorable but doesn't like to pose for pictures yet.

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Long time no post...Well I'm cutting back on my herd and the amount of shows I go to. Although right now I've got babies coming out of my ears, very nice looking ones to oh the decisions. I'll try to get some new pictures up soon very very soon.

The next show I will be going to hopefully is Vandorf on the 21st

I've Retired Sundown and Pizza The Hut so they've been taken off my website but they will remain here as spoiled pets.

Okie that seems to be it for now.

Nothing from Starshine yet, which sucks.

I tattooed my jr's and Alaska. They all seriously hated me for at least ten minutes, at least now I have something to show at Elmira, so far this is who's going:

DevonGlen's Smoke Baby- Black sr doe
NVR's Alaska - Black Otter sr doe
DevonGlen's Boston - Blue Sr doe
DevonGlen's Mai B - Blue jr doe
DevonGlen's Mercedes - Black Otter jr doe
Missy's L. Lafontaine - Broken jr Doe

DevonGlen's Lunatic Fringe - Shaded jr buck
DevonGlen's Valhalla - Self jr buck
DevonGlen's Loki - Self jr buck
DevonGlen's MoonShadow - Shaded jr buck
Wendover's Juno - shaded sr doe
Little Schoolhouse's Charlie - shaded sr buck

If Tristyn comes she'll probably bring Eragon, Orange Julius, and one of her chinchilla babies, once she asks me nicely to tattoo them for her.

Pictures!

Ok, so we have Stardust helping with dishes, a pile of fur, Boston sleeping with her babies and, Tristyn and I fooling around with the camera, me pictured with Mai-B

So Starshine is due today, she hasn't done much except remove all the hay from the nest box. None of the babies from Dala and Dawson are REW which is somewhat of a surprise they were all born pink but now have a greyish tinge.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Babies!

Well last night Dala surprised me with a nest box very full of fur, since I saw nothing moving I fed all the rabbits and watered them them then just for fun I checked this un-moving mound of fur and to my surprise found 5 fat pink babies underneath the fur Mt. Everest. So curiously I check Dawson's nest box which has had fur in it for over a week now, nothing but her orange ball she's been treating like a baby. Yay for Dala the third time really is a charm! This morning Dawson has more fur pulled (She is seriously bald and I'm not kidding) So I dig through the mountain and voila! 3 fat babies and an orange ball. Now I'm crossing my fingers for Starshine who is one strange rabbit.

I once again have many empty cages, and very few rabbits for sale. I'm thinking about expanding my Chocolate and Lilac mini rex population so I'll be looking for a nice buck, where I'm lacking in all my colours.

Okie thats it for now or I'm going to be late for the bus.

Updates.

Baxter was awesome with like 300 rabbits entered in a building that should only have about 100 max. My molting Jersey's didn't do to much but I did get reserve of breed in Mini Rex with Noirette. I'm not showing in youth this year, but glad to say that DevonGlen's Baba O'Riley got Best by a youth, and Tristyn got reserve by a youth with her Dwarf buck Eragon. A big congrats to Jessica Roberts who got BIS with Calliope a beautiful English Angora.

I've just sent Tristyn out to the the rabbitry to check on Ice Baby who is due today...Apparently there is nothing yet.

15 days to go until the litters by Charlie are due to arrive and I'm super excited about that...I've posted shows I'm going to on my website, more are to come a soon as I found out if I'm allowed to go :P

I've finally named my new Jersey doe, Wendover's Juno. Although I accidentally deleted her photo so I'll get a new one ASAP . Tristyn has also gotten a new rabbit a really cute orange dwarf buck who is absolutely tiny and has a pretty killer body on him.

Ok I'm sure thats it for updates, I'll probably think of something more later.

Fulton + Memorial day auction

I went to the Fulton show this past weekend with Beth Collins (Family Pride) and Denise Robertson (Jordon Hollow) We stayed at Denise's B&B for the night which we got to at around 10:30-11pm. I have to say Denise's house is absolutely beautiful. We we're on the road again by 4:30am, I was still half asleep at the time, we had no trouble at the border at all. We arrived at the show without running out of gas as the gas light had come on shortly after we crossed the border which was very nerve wracking for some of the passengers I.E. Denise and I. I don't think the rabbits or cavies had any idea that we could run out of gas at any moment. The show was great, I sold a REW mini rex baby from Smoke Baby's litter as a pet, and the Blue Tort doe from Cicada's litter as a brood doe to a lady from Quebec just starting in Jersey Woolies. Meanwhile Beth had sold seven already.
I also picked up Little Schoolhouse's Charlie a sable point Jersey Wooly buck who is an absolute sweetheart, and by total fluke I bought a beautiful smoke pearl doe, even after I was told I wasn't allowed to buy any rabbits under any circumstances.
On the way home we stopped at a Bob Evans and stuffed ourselves to the gills, then once we crossed the border we dropped Denise off and poked around at her cavies for a while then headed off for Beth's house which we got to at midnight.
After a slightly longer nights sleep we were on the road again this time to the DR&CBA memorial day and auction in Schomberg, where I waited for my dad to pick me up and managed not to buy anything in the auction, although I got in trouble later after I mention the fawn/red Netherland dwarf bucks that Tristyn would of liked.
So we got home, got everyone back into their appropriate cages, and once my mom saw the Smoke Pearl doe she didn't mind that I bought her.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Wow its been over two weeks since my last post, in which time Raven had her oopsie litter of one booted castor monster of a baby who resides in the wall of the rabbit shed and somehow managed to survive several cold nights all by its lonesome. I have sold several Mini Rex in the form of Baba O'Riley, Arya, Teslin, and Ace, and the blue buck from Smoke Baby's litter which leaves me with next to nothing to show in the Mini Rex area... Meanwhile on the blooming Jersey Wooly front Starshine is due tomorrow hopefully, Cicada's babies have reached their gangly stage and are currently the ugliest bunch of furballs ever, I'm going to be picking up a Sable Point buck from Little Schoolhouse rabbitry this weekend at the Fulton show, and hopefully try to sell some of my excess stock either at the show or at the DRCBA Auction the next day.

Thats it fur now

Baby news.

I'm having terrible luck with litters this year =( After losing 3 entire litters and most of a fourth litter, and a whole bunch of does missing, one of Boston's three and a half week old babies passed away. He was the smallest and the liveliest until about two days ago. The other two are doing great, and Smoke Baby's babies are doing excellent as well. I palpated Starshine and I am certain I felt little marble sized babies in there which has me jumping for joy.

Today I tried something a little new with grooming the baby Jersey Woolies, I reversed the shop vac and blew out their coats, they didn't like it at all, but it works great. I also blew out the coats on the adults who didn't mind it at all. I'll probably invest in a blower now mainly because they aren't as loud as a shop vac, and don't take up as much room.

At the MSrba spring convention I had the chance to feel a beautiful blue fuzzy holland jr doe (Plank's Aqualena owned by Gina Cook) Man did this doe have a body to die for, killer hindquarters to boot! So I was going over my Jersey Woolies and on Cicada's entire litter I felt these great hindquarters which reminded me of Aqualena, and anyone who has felt that doe knows what I'm talking about, I swear my jaw hit the ground when I felt them all, and it stayed there.

I forgot to write down Raven's due date, which I'm pretty sure is any day now. I also seem to of lost the photo's from the MSrba convention hopefully this is only temporarily I will be initiating a full fledged search for them once I'm done this post. All the babies are doing great and are so adorably cute I think it's going to be hard choosing just one. Bala's baby (BruceMoose) is doing great it is hilarious that he is with a mini rex litter he is getting so poofy while they just look like miniature adults.

Going to look for missing pictures now

MSrba convention part 1

What a great trip we had. On the way down it was snowing like mad and the roads where just awful, but my dad still drove me to Vaughn Mills where we waited about an hour for Jen (Jentle Lops and Woolies) Bass Pro Shops is amazing!!! I spent my time teasing the big fat fishies. Finally I bid farewell to my dad and Jen and I where on our way to Kitchener to pick up Jessica (BumbleBeary Angora's) which took much longer then normal (about 4 hours). We somehow manages it get 11 bunnies, four of which where English Angora's in enormous carriers into Jen's little Chevy Aveo hatchback, which was a very tight squeeze. A couple hours later and one rest stop we make it to the border which we had to issue getting through, (it was on the way back we had issues)

Another couple hours later and after numerous wrong turns and bad directions we make it to the hotel which had lost our reservations, then they gave us a single bed room, and then finally a room with two beds. We got to bed around 4am. We managed to sleep in till an amazing 6:30am. Then we had to get to the show, so once again we got lost and missed our turns but we made it and got our entries in. Arya got Best Blue Sr doe, but she was the only sr doe. The Dutchman who I sold to Richard was best sr buck and best opposite sex lynx out of 2 lynx all together. Meanwhile on the English Angora front Jessica was kicking butt and won Best Of Breed with Calliope, shortly followed by Jen winning Best Of Breed in the Jersey Woolies with Cesar.

We had dinner with another Angora breeder but before we actually made it to Bob Evans, we where driving around looking for a Denny's that had closed like 2 years ago which was extremely funny. We got back to the hotel late but stayed up and "judge" our bunnies, we turned in around midnight....

more to come soon...

Two posts in one day! wow. I recently got new pictures of most of my does and bucks, except the ones on my for sale page which I am hoping to get to later today when the batteries for the camera are done charging (which takes forever)

You know your a rabbit nerd when...
-You see a picture of a rabbit and instead of saying aww you say I just want to feel the back on that rabbit. (which is exactly what Heather Charles from Little Hutch on a Hill said about Noirette)
- You can remember the names of all your rabbits, and who their related to but can't figure out how you know half the people you do or their names
-You've been late/missed work or school because of an issue with a rabbit or rabbits
- You spend more money on rabbits then you do on yourself
-You always seem to find shavings/hay/poop in your socks and don't know how it got there (Happens to Lori all the time)
-Sticky children are your biggest pet peeve especially if you have a wooled breed or rex breed

Thats it for now.
I added a new page to my website, Videos which are videos I have created featuring my rabbits I thought it be fun so you can actually see some of the rabbits instead of just a picture. Also I decided to keep Teslin mainly because she is drop dead gorgeous!!! Her fur is simply amazing although she is a tad bigger then her sister Mercedes who is another stunner (I'm definitely going to repeat this breeding!!!)

By the looks of it I'm going to have some simply stunning animals ready for convention. Lori will be traveling to convention with us this year as well. (Lori if your reading this I'm signing you up to the DRCBA and ARBA)

Bala's one baby is a siamese sable, even though it's a buck I'm still going to keep him. Smoke Baby's litter looks to be, 2 bucks and a doe (one blue is a doe) Bostons are 2 bucks and a doe as well. Looks to be a theme this year.

Attack of the Whites!!!!

As much as I like Whites and their great qualities for show (I.E not worrying about scattered white hairs, mismatched toenails, or wrong under colour) I don't intend on having a rabbitry full of them since they just don't sell, and unfortunately at auctions they usually end up being sold for meat. As it turns out almost all of my Mini Rex have the REW gene for certain (Especially Baba O'Riley and Sundown) and I just had a pure white litter born from Boston (by Baba) and one white in Smoke Baby's litter (by Baba) and the one thing Smoke Baby and Boston have in Common is their mother Sundown.

I sold another buck! this one a blue from Cicada's litter. I still have all my big, ugly(not really), very friendly Mini Rex bucks that need to be sold fast, since I'm completely out of cage space and am going to be needing to separate some litters soon.

I'm planning on going to more Spring shows this year, instead of just Baxter Schomberg and Powassan. I'm planning on attending Elmira, Brooklin and Vandorf.

=( Bad news time.

Yesterday I lost 5 kits, 2 of Bala's got out of the nest box and froze. Nicole lost her entire litter probably from stomping on them. All of this happened within a two hour time period while I was in Midland. Bala's remaining kit has been fostered to smoke baby, and it looks to be a smoke pearl, the other two where a black and siamese sable :( Smoke Baby has 3 +1 peanut of her own 1 REW and 2 blue (the peanut is a lynx). Boston had 3 REW. White seems to be rampant in my rabbitry this year... Dala had 4 DOA yesterday as well all of which where extremely large and what I like to call "Hippo Babies" Which has occurred once before in my rabbitry with Cahira (a mini rex)

On another bad note, Raven might of been bred to the broken opal buck Todd, who I found running free in the rabbitry with her yesterday morning.

On a happier note, I really like the way Cicada's babies are turning out, really great bodies, heads, and wool on them. Same with MoonShadow he is turning out to be a real handsome fellow and should do extremely well in the shows. He also likes to ride on your shoulder like a parrot. this spring. As for Mini Rex if my bucks can hold their coats until the spring shows they should do really well to, especially Ace who seems to get better and better every time I look at him, considering he had to of been the ugliest baby ever, Raven has produced some really nice kits including Emmet who has several BIS's and RIS's under his belt so I'm hoping Ace will do the same.

I decided to keep Arya because she is just an amazing little doe with extraordinary fur and a killer body and she never seems to be out of coat. She should do very well in the shows this year.

The next litters I'll have after Ice Baby's due date won't be born until April when the weather is warmer, and so I can have doe and litters at the Schomberg Spring Fair, which the public loves... who doesn't love a bunch of baby bunnies??

Babies Babies Babies!!

This morning when I went out to the rabbitry I found 2 nest boxes with babies in them. Bala had 3+2 peanuts, Boston did the same with 3+2 peanuts. So content with that I go back to the house and await Lori's visit, and while I do that I did do the dishes... So Lori came over we talked about stuff played bingo online, had lunch then went out to see the bunnies and while we where out there playing with the older babies and adults, Nicole decides to have babies right in front of us! Since she didn't pull enough fur we stayed and waited for her to finish. She ended up having 3 +1 peanut, and now has a magnificent nest with nice long, and soft white fur from Dala who made a beautiful nest just over a month ago only to have babies on the wire (She's due in 2 days!!) So, Smoke Baby is the last February 11th doe left to have babies.

Boston's 3 all look like REWs, Bala looks like she's got 1 Black 1 Blue and a Tort, and Nicole looks to have 1 black, and 2 booted blues.

Updates..

In the video I posted yesterday, I neglected to mention Zenith appears several times...oh and Tristyn's legs...

Any how I cleaned all the cages to day, except the ones with shavings which I did yesterday. It took me a bit (o.k. a lot) longer then usual because I kept getting distracted by the immense cuteness of the current litters. Cicada's babies are seriously to cute and I was wrong there are 5 boys and 1 girl (the blue tort) I'm keeping the Tort buck, but a black and blue are being considered... For Alaska's litter I limited myself to one being the Black otter, mainly because I already have like a billion blacks (But I love them)

I bred Ice Baby to Ice T today for a litter due on February 29th (ironic the two Ice names...)
Isn't he adorable?

another...update

I finished cleaning most of the cages, except I ran out of shavings, and the cleaning spray stuff.

-I'm looking for a shaded Jersey buck thats under a year old, Stardust is going to be 5 years old this year. He is a super friendly guy with great wool, and lots of energy.
- Ice T is another buck who's going to be 5 this year, he is exactly like Stardust in personality and colour, although his fur is much shorter. Ice T was the second Mini Rex buck I bought (NV's Zorro was the first)

Rabbits named after songs:

Baba O'Riley (The Who)
Ilfracombe (Hawksley Workman)
Moonshadow (Cat Stevens)
Smoke Baby (Hawksley Workman)
Sundown (Gordon Lightfoot)

Rabbits named after a city/Place

Alaska
Bala
Boston
Dawson
North Of Forty (this counts)

Cleaning day.

I'm supposed to be out in the rabbitry cleaning trays right now... except I'm here writing this. I've already cleaned about 10 cages so I'm just over a quarter finished. It's an unpleasant -5 degrees outside but a pleasant 7.2 degrees in the rabbitry.

I sexed Cicada's babies and I really hope I sexed them wrong because all 6 appear to be bucks, and only the 2 blacks and 1 blue appear to be harbouring the dwarf gene boo for me. I was really hoping for the blue tort to be a doe and a dwarf... :( At least the black otter from Alaska's litter is a doe. She looks to be a little show stopper, I can't wait for the spring shows!!!

The Blue Tort from Dawson's litter was sold to one of my mom's friends from work, who has two other rabbits. Lori, is going to let me show the little doe for her this spring which is great since she's turning out to be quite a showy little doe.

<---- Zenith, semi-enjoying the snow.

Bucks anyone???

Well, I'm officially swamped by rabbits, mainly bucks in fact Since I am short a cage James Bun a very friendly and cute, tort mini rex buck who's mommy, Sundown got Best In Show at the Royal in 2005 at 6 months old (Shameless advertising) has free range of the shed. I'm going to get some new pictures up soon since the current ones aren't very flattering. I've also offered discounts on the does when purchased with a buck :D

On a happy note Cicada had 6 + 1 DOA.
Nicole & Ice Baby didn't take, and Dala had 2 DOA :(

I've got itchy feet and can't wait to get to a show, it's been so long since the last one I went to (November 11th)

That's about it for now

From the frozen fingers of Devon...

Wednesday night dipped down to a chilly -30 resulting in only one water bottle with a minuscule chunk of ice floating in it...

As for the rabbits I have finally named the tri buck from Pizza's last litter, Ilfracombe (Ilfracombe is a seaside resort on the north coast of Devon, England with a small harbour, surrounded by cliffs.)
The smoke pearl buck from Dawson's litter is named Moonshadow. (Originally Mojo Monkey Man)

That's it for right now..

Happy New Years

Dawson's 2 babies are way to cute! One is a blue tort doe the other is a smoke pearl buck, there was a blue point peanut :( They're very active little guys and enjoy keeping me up all night. Dawson is a really good mom.

Alaska had 3 + 2 peanuts. 2 Blacks and an extremely nice black otter. Alaska didn't pull enough fur so some of Dawson's was "borrowed" since she'd pulled enough to make herself bald (Thus living in my room)

My only Jersey Buck Stardust (Who thinks his name is rather "Girlie" is now Ziggy Stardust. after the David Bowie song.

My only otter Mini Rex Buck Ace who looked a little sketchy at first has matured into a gorgeous buck with great texture and density of his fur (not to mention his body!!!) His only fault is his head isn't as blocky as I like. I'll probably breed him with Arya who has a very nice bucky head.

I'm still debating who to breed Boston to, Baba O'Riley because they both have a chocolate and dilute gene, or to the Flying Dutchman for Lynx, Opal, and blue.
